Or 1 x 15 mins and 1 x 30 mins BREAKS taken during and immediately following the 4 ½ Hour Driving Period
DAILY REST
11 Hours
Can be reduced to 9 Hours, 3 TIMES A WEEK.
SPLIT DAILY REST
12 Hours
Can be split into BREAKS of 2 periods, one of at least 3 Hours, the other must be of at least 9 Hours.
WEEKLY REST
45 Hours

Can be reduced to 24 Hours at BASE or AWAY from BASE. But a rest of 45 Hours must be taken in any period of 2 weeks. Any reduction must be made up "en-bloc" by the end of the THIRD WEEK following.

How long can a driver be on duty?

There are no duty limits. However, the Daily Rest requirements limit the number of hours a day that a Driver can work. These are as follows:

DOUBLE MANNING:
Same rules apply as 1 driver, except that during each period of 30 Hours, each driver shall have a rest of not less than 9 consecutive Hours. The presence of another Driver is optional for the first hour.

FERRY CROSSING OR TRAIN:
If a vehicle covers part of its journey by ferryboat or train, the following rules apply :

The daily rest period of 11 Hours may be interrupted, but not more than twice by other activities not exceeding 1 hour in total. During the daily rest, the driver must have access to a bunk or couchette.
